Payday lenders operate in one of the most dynamic and competitive industries in search marketing. Increasing conversions and reducing overall cost per acquisition therefore requires constant vigilance for key players. Our client, Wonga.com, was the first payday loan company to take its loans online.
With Google constantly developing and refining its payday loan algorithm to monitor and penalise spam and keyword manipulation, nasty links can really harm a company’s organic performance. This means that our first step was to carry out some extensive backlink auditing.
The process naturally uncovered a huge number of spammy and other low quality links. To clean them up, the Kurve team devised a large scale outreach process, contacting as many webmasters as possible in order to remove spammy links. If the webmasters responsible for harmful links were unreachable, Kurve arranged for Google to directly disavow them.
The completed backlink audit created a nice clean slate and a solid foundation to move forward with the next step in the strategy. For this, we turned our focus to strategic marketing and spent some time and resources creating innovative, engaging, and unique content.
Using this fresh content, we set about forming relationships with hundreds of eminent and relevant website owners around the world. These connections promoted and bolstered the Wonga brand online, building new links that provided a greater volume of superior quality votes of confidence for the brand.
